(1837-42) $2 1/2 C. Bechtler Quarter Eagle, 70G. 20C. AU55 PCGS. K-13, R.6. An important part of the seventh and final series of gold pieces coined by Christopher Bechtler in Rutherford County, North Carolina. In Private Gold Coins and Patterns of the United States, Donald Kagin provides some basic information about the seven series of C. Bechtler gold on page 256. Further details are provided by Walter Breen in his Complete Encyclopedia who suggests that the seventh series pieces were produced from 1840 to 1842. A lovely green-gold example with deep steel toning. Listed on page 349 of the 2008 Guide Book. (NGC ID# 2B9J, PCGS# 10070)
