Description:
Popular C. Bechtler 134G, With Star Five Dollar AU50
(1837-42) $5 C. Bechtler Five Dollar, 134G, With Star AU50 PCGS. K-20, R.4. Lustrous yellow-gold with splashes of orange patina here and there on the reverse. The planchet appears to be somewhat buckled along the border from 12 o'clock to 3 o'clock and corresponding reverse area, resulting in an irregular wear pattern in this area. Frequently found with rotated dies, here they are turned almost 90 degrees clockwise. The most obtainable variety among the Bechtler Fives, the largest and most difficult denomination from this North Carolina private minter. Listed on page 346 of the 2006 Guide Book. (PCGS# 10097)
