Description:
Lustrous High-End AU C. Bechtler
Five Dollar, 134G, With Star, K-20
(1837-42) $5 C. Bechtler Five Dollar, 134G, With Star AU50 PCGS. K-20, R.4. The Christopher Bechtler five dollars of this series show why the Bechtler family was successful in not only producing, but keeping in circulation, private gold coinage over a period approaching two decades: The issues, as here on this 134G, Star example, were scrupulous about proclaiming both their weight in grams and their fineness in carats. Any suspicion of underweight coins or lower finenesses than advertised would have been the kiss of death for such pieces.
This golden-orange AU50 example, certified in a green-label holder, actually gives the impression of being a bit finer than the stated grade. Much luster remains on both sides, and only a few minor ticks and scrapes appear under a loupe. Listed on page 365 of the 2011 Guide Book. (PCGS# 10097)

What I most appreciated was how thorough you were when we initially met, how you were conservative in your estimates, not trying to get me to consign by giving false expectations, and then for delivering above and beyond on your commitment to me of a wonderful marketing campaign and a first rate catalog and photos, all of which resulted in a final total price realized that was nicely higher than what you had told me to expect.
