Description:
Splendid Prooflike C. Bechtler With Star Five Dollar
(1837-42) $5 C.Bechtler Five Dollar, 134G, With Star MS62 Prooflike NGC. K-20, R.4. Both sides of this flashy yellow-gold representative, while showing a moderate amount of handling and occasional unfinished areas along the borders, come alive with reflective luster. All of the lettering is bold save for minor weakness on the tops of AT RUTHERF and CARATS. Heritage has sold several AU58 With Star Bechtler Fives, but this is the first Mint State coin to come our way. The Kagin-20 variety is very quickly identifiable by the presence of a large star below 134.G; the letter G is, in fact, a C to which a modification has been done by hand. Listed on page 346 of the 2006 Guide Book.
