Description:
Mint State C. Bechtler Dollar
N Reversed, K-4, Lustrous Green-Gold Coin
(1837-42) G$1 C. Bechtler Dollar, N Reversed MS61 NGC. K-4, R.4. This popular blundered-die variety shows the piquant circumstances under which these coins were produced, but the Bechtler coinage was nonetheless key to later Mint history, paving the way for the establishment of the first American branch mints as well as the eventual introduction of the federal gold dollar denomination in 1849. This fully lustrous Mint State example shows scattered marks and die rust on greenish-gold, attractive surfaces. A scrape runs through the I of CAROLINA, and a die crack connects the rim with INA. Listed on page 373 of the 2013 Guide Book. (PCGS# 10055)
