Near Mint 1834 C. Bechtler Five Dollars1834 $5 C.Bechtler Five Dollar, 140 G., RUTHERFORD, Plain Edge AU58 NGC. K-17, R.5. While a couple of varieties of Bechtler Gold Dollars make regular appearances in auction catalogs, all Bechtler Five Dollar pieces are rare, and when encountered, are most often the 134 grams, Sixth Series variety (Kagin-20). This Fourth Series Bechtler gold piece is an earlier, 140 gram variety, and it is decidedly rare this close to Mint State. Olive-gold in color with ample glimpses of the original luster, no marks are worthy of mention aside from a wispy graze above INA in CAROLINA. Struck from widely rotated dies. Listed on page 346 of the 2006 Guide Book.(#10091) (PCGS# 10091)
