1852/1 $10 Humbert Ten Dollar XF45 NGC. K-8, R.4....
Choice XF 1852/1 Humbert Ten, K-81852/1 $10 Humbert Ten Dollar XF45 NGC. K-8, R.4. The U.S. Assay Office in California planned to strike ten dollar pieces in 1851 but the authority to strike denominations of less than fifty dollars did not arrive until 1852. Thus, the present variety is overdated 1852/1, and is likely the earliest of the four known Humbert ten die marriages. As seen on most if not all examples, a bold die crack bisects the reverse between 12 and 5 o'clock. The wheat-gold surfaces exhibit substantial luster and show marks beneath the scroll and on the central reverse. Listed on page 378 of the 2013 Guide Book. (PCGS# 10190)
