Mint State 1852 Humbert Ten Dollar, K-10a1852 $10 Humbert Ten Dollar MS60 PCGS. K-10a, R.5. The IINITED variety, caused by a heavy die crack along the bases of UNITED. An unusually high grade for this popular issue, one of the last produced by the U.S. Assay Office prior to the departure of John Moffat from the firm. This honey-gold piece displays full detail on the eagle's breast, although the fletchings show slight incompleteness. Die rust causes a pebbled texture to the obverse, as made, but conspicuous marks are absent. Luster is particularly abundant across the reverse, which exhibits the engine-turned design attributed to Humbert's prior experience as a watchmaker. Listed on page 350 of the 2007 Guide Book. Population: 2 in 60, 5 finer (10/06).
