Description

Rare 900 Fineness 1852 Assay Office Fifty
K-14, XF Details

1852 $50 Assay Office Fifty Dollar, 900 Thous. -- Altered Surfaces -- PCGS Genuine. XF Details. K-14, High R.5. Unlike the relative profusion of 887 fineness U.S. Assay Office fifties for 1852, there is only one die pair at 900 fineness, the Kagin-14, and it is rare regardless of condition. While this lightly worn example is not without its faults -- yellow-orange surfaces have an unusual microporous texture to the luster along with numerous choppy abrasions -- this remains a readily collectible coin and an important historical artifact containing more than two ounces of precious metal found during the California Gold Rush. Listed on page 379 of the 2013 Guide Book.

If my clients were to auction something of significance, having Mike as the auctioneer would be a deal maker as far as I am concerned.
