Description

Choice AU 1852 Humbert Fifty Dollar
K-11, 887 Thous.

1852 $50 RE Humbert Fifty Dollar, 887 Thous. AU55 NGC. K-11, R.5. Kagin-11 is the final octagonal "slug" issue bearing the name of U.S. Assayer Augustus Humbert. Later the same year, a final fifty dollar variety was released that referred solely to the United States Office of Gold, followed by ten and twenty dollar issues in 1853 before the facility was replaced by the fledging San Francisco Mint. The typical K-11 "slug" grades VF and has problems such as cleaning or edge knocks. The present piece, however, retains noticeable glimpses of orange-gold luster, and although small abrasions are scattered, none are singularly detracting. Listed on page 368 of the 2012 Guide Book. (PCGS# 10217)
