SSCA Choice AU 1854 Kellogg Twenty1854 $20 Kellogg & Co. Twenty Dollar AU55 PCGS. Ex: S.S. Central America. SSCA 7164. Long Arrows, Small Letters obverse and reverse. K-2, R.4. The major devices are well struck, and incompleteness of impression is limited to some of the obverse star centers. This partly lustrous piece is surprisingly free from obtrusive abrasions, although a faint vertical mark on the cheek is noted. John G. Kellogg, a former cashier of the U.S. Assay Office, was petitioned in 1854 to strike gold pieces to fill the market void left by the late opening of the San Francisco Mint. This piece is encased in a gold label holder, and the certificate of authenticity accompanies the lot. Listed on page 359 of the 2007 Guide Book. (PCGS# 10222)
