Interesting 1855 Kellogg Twenty, VF301855 $20 Kellogg & Co. Twenty Dollar, VF30 PCGS. K-3b, R.5. Kellogg & Co. played an important role in the California economy during the 1850s. The firm filled the gap between the closing of the United States Assay Office and the opening of the San Francisco Mint, coining enough twenty dollar gold coins to meet the needs of the burgeoning local economy. The present example has moderate wear, primarily on the obverse, with no individually distracting abrasions. Much satiny mint luster remains on the attractive surfaces. (PCGS# 10225)
