Mint State 1860 Clark, Gruber $2.50 Gold1860 $2 1/2 Clark, Gruber & Co. Quarter Eagle MS62 NGC. Kagin-1, R.4. With the exception of the larger denomination ($10 and $20) pieces of 1860, all of the Clark, Gruber pieces were designed after the Federal gold coinage of that time period. This example has a head of Liberty facing left, with 13 stars around and the date below. Liberty's coronet is inscribed CLARK & CO. The reverse has an eagle with olive branch and arrows, and the denomination below. The only departure from the Federal design is the reverse legend, in this case reading: PIKES PEAK GOLD DENVER. This is a lovely Mint State example with fully brilliant green-gold surfaces and sharp design features. The surfaces are lightly abraded, but not objectionably so. Listed on page 362 of the 2006 Guide Book. (PCGS# 10135)
