Location: Long Beach, CA
Description:
Uncirculated 1853 Assay Ten
1853 Assay Office Ten Dollar, 900 Thous. MS 60 NGC. K-16, Low R.6. Struck in a one-month period from March to April of 1853, this is one of the more attractive Assay tens we have handled recently. The devices are especially well struck with strong definition on the eagle's feathers and the top of the shield. The greenish-gold color of the coin shows a pale overlay of reddish patina, and the only mark of any note is nearly concealed on the reverse beneath the RN of CALIFORNIA. Listed on page 279 of the 1999 Guide Book. (PCGS# 10007)
