Description

Minimally Worn 1852 Assay Office Slug, 900 Thousandths

1852 $50 Assay Office Fifty Dollar, 900 Thous. AU 55 NGC. K-14, High R.5. Although dated 1852, this issue was delivered in the first two months of 1853. Kagin (Private Gold Coins of the United States, 1981) asserts that 23,800 pieces were produced, most of which were probably melted. Typically abraded for a gold coin of this size, the surfaces display original green-gold coloration. The central obverse is somewhat softly impressed, but the balance of the devices are quite well defined despite light rub. In sum, this is a solid Choice AU representative of this impressive issue. Listed on page 279 of the 2000 Guide Book. (NGC ID# ANHH, PCGS# 10019)

It goes without saying that after the auction when we had a chance to have dinner together and get to know each other it even made it a better experience for me. I look forward to getting more involved with Heritage in the Future.
