Description

(1831-34) C.Bechtler Dollar, 30G. AU 58 PCGS. Kagin-1, Breen 7745. Struck by Christoph Bechtler ca. 1831-34 and historically significant as the first gold dollar produced in the United States. As on many pieces, the obverse is noticeably buckled, but on this coin, the detail is not affected. This essentially Uncirculated example has a bit of light green-gold and rose color and very clean surfaces.
This is one of the more available of the Christoph Bechtler issues. Most seen are well worn with Very Fine to Extremely Fine being the grade most often seen. Properly graded AUs are much scarcer than generally believed and the North Georgia Collection example is one of the best examples of this variety available to collectors. Listed on page 273 of the 1998 Guide Book. (PCGS# 10064)
