Description

Pattern Hub Impression of $50 Gold Coinage of 1851-52

Undated $50 Slug Eagle Hub Impression MS64 Brown NGC. Kagin-7. Struck in copper. UNIQUE. The obverse shows a hub impression of a spread eagle holding a ribbon on a round planchet, by CC Wright (Used to make $50 pieces of 1851-52.) The reverse shows a (reversed) name printed across the top: WALTER L.S. LANGERMAN. A smooth, richly toned piece which is largely unabraded, save for a pair of nicks near the center of the reverse, which confirm its identity as the plate coin on page 327 of Kagin's "Private Gold Coins and Patterns of the United States." This piece, which is too large to fit into a normal NGC holder, is accompanied by its NGC insert and photo certificate. (PCGS# 10217)
