Description:
Desirable 1868 Three Dollar, MS61
1868 $3 MS61 NGC. The 1868 three dollar, of which 4,850 circulation strikes were produced, is obtainable in About Uncirculated and, with a bit of searching, in the lower Mint State grades. MS65 and finer examples, however, are rare. The MS61 specimen in the current lot displays peach-gold patina that is imbued with occasional wisps of orange, and somewhat prooflike fields highlight the motifs. A relatively sharp strike is noted on the design elements, save for softness in some of the Indian's hair curls. A few light handling marks are scattered about, especially on the obverse.(Registry values: N2998) (NGC ID# 25MP, PCGS# 7989)
