Description

1873 Closed 3 Three Dollar
Appealing Choice AU Example

1873 $3 Closed 3 AU55 NGC. Mint records indicate only proof 1873 three dollar gold pieces were struck, but circulation strikes clearly exist. Some experts believe they were contemporary, and others feel they were later restrikes. This Choice AU example is typical of the average certified survivor, showing light wear with semiprooflike areas remaining around the device edges. The color is an attractive medium orange-gold and there are no mentionable distractions on either side. The surfaces are well-struck up, further increasing the considerable eye appeal this piece offers. Census: 12 in 55, 20 finer (2/13).
