Rare and Desirable 1877 Three Dollar Gold Piece1877 $3 AU55 PCGS. A very scarce date in any grade which reflects the token mintage of a mere 1,400 pieces. Most were lost or melted, and just a handful survive today. The present example is graced by delightful orange-gold luster and boasts a sharp strike. There are minor hairlines from circulation, but minimal nicks or cuts which distract the eye. For identification purposes there is a faint, thin scratch running down the back of Liberty's nose, and a dull scrape below the RS of DOLLARS. All in all, this is a very appealing coin for the grade, and one that will certainly command the attention it deserves. Population: 11 in 55, 15 finer (11/05).
