Description

1881 Three Dollar Gold, MS61
Only 500 Pieces Struck

1881 $3 MS61 NGC. From a remarkably low mintage of just 500 business-strike examples, the 1881 three dollar gold piece is a rare issue in all grades. The low mintage creates intense collector demand and the surviving Mint State population numbers no more than 20-30 pieces, despite inflated population data that suggests a larger supply. As a result, many collectors opt to buy a proof to represent this date.

The present coin is an attractive MS61 example with well-detailed design elements and pleasing yellow-gold surfaces that show traces of prooflike reflectivity in sheltered areas. The fields show a minimum number of contact marks for the grade. Census: 17 in 61, 20 finer (4/13).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 25N4, PCGS# 8003)

Today I received the catalog which is a work of art unto itself. When I found my lot I was literally blown away by what Craig had done with the presentation....... quite amazing to say the least!
