Description:
PCGS 1883 MS 65. The 1883 has one of the lowest mintages of the series with only 900 pieces struck. It is a genuinely rare coin that apparently did circulate to some degree as most survivors are XF or AU, and mint state pieces are quite elusive. In gem condition the 1883 is of the utmost rarity and importance, only one other piece has been so graded, and that one also is certified by PCGS.
The surfaces of this piece have the full, frosted mint luster that is so prevalent on high grade threes, and on this coin there is also a bit of semi-prooflikeness noted. Fully struck in all areas, the surfaces are minimally abraded with no marks large enough to use for pedigree purposes. (NGC ID# 25N6, PCGS# 8005)
