1887 $3 MS65 PCGS....
Semireflective Gem 1887 Three Dollar1887 $3 MS65 PCGS. The 1887 three dollar gold piece has the highest mintage of any business strike issue for the final decade of the denomination. Of course, "highest" is relative, because the mintage amounts to just 6,000 pieces, an order of magnitude below the production of type dates such as the 1854 and 1878. While a number of examples were saved in Mint State, Gems such as this lot are condition rarities. Butter-yellow fields offer watery partial reflectivity, while the interiors show lavender-silver accents. The strike is a trifle soft, but the preservation is excellent. Population: 24 in 65, 8 finer (11/11).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 25NA, PCGS# 8009)
