Description:
1888 Three Dollar, Eye-Appealing MS66+
1888 $3 MS66+ PCGS. CAC. The eye appeal is every bit as glorious as the MS66+ grade would suggest on this 1888 three dollar gold, one of the finest survivors of the mintage of 5,000 coins. This piece has obviously been carefully preserved by generations of collectors, a coin that likely never saw even a moment of circulation as savvy numismatists of the era knew that the series would soon end -- the only question was "When?" Fully lustrous surfaces show a mix of mint frost and prooflike semireflectivity, with two-toned accents of rose-gold and reddish-orange. Population: 32 in 66 (1 in 66+), 2 finer (10/12).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 25NB, PCGS# 8010)
