Description:
Toned Mint State 1874-CC Trade Dollar
1874-CC T$1 MS63 PCGS. All examples of this date are rare in Mint State grades, and MS63 or MS64 is about the best that can reasonably be hoped for. Three influencing factors contribute to the rarity of this issue in higher grades: first, mintmark collector did not begin in earnest for another two decades; second, Trade Dollars were not in favor with the collecting public or serious numismatists until nearly a century later; and third, most of the original mintage was exported. An attractive example despite a few heavy abrasions behind the eagle's head and neck, as well as some faint scratches hidden within the details of Liberty. This example is fully lustrous with deep gold color and traces of iridescent toning.
