Description:
NGC 1872 MS 64 Red and Brown. Here is a coin that is on many collector's want lists. The mintage for 1872 was a very low 65,000 pieces and the coin is scarce in all grades, most collectors having to settle for a proof rather than a business strike. This piece is fully detailed with brick-red fields on the obverse, the reverse showing some slight steely-blue tints scattered here and there. Carbonless with a few minor abrasions on the shield lines to account for the grade. Population: 9 in 64, 3 finer. Trends $1,200 in MS 63, $2,800 in MS 65. (NGC ID# 22NG, PCGS# 3613)
