Description

MS66 PCGS 1933-S Walker

1933-S 50C MS66 PCGS. The Great Depression caused the Mint to suspend Half Dollar production in 1930, 1931, and 1932. The presses were once again activated in 1933, but only at the San Francisco Mint, where 1.7 million Half Dollars were delivered. The '33-S is an important date as the last of the "early Walkers" (i.e., those dated 1916-1933). Although not common in the preferred Mint State grades, the '33-S is not rare either, and fully struck Gems are obtainable with patience. From the standpoint of luster quality and surface preservation, this is one of the most desirable '33-S Halves that this cataloger has seen. Both sides are untoned with scintillating mint frost. Neither side reveals any conspicuous abrasions, and the obverse is virtually blemish-free. A find for the discerning specialist.
From the Marvin Elkin Collection (the Jon/Lor PCGS Registry Set). (NGC ID# 24RE, PCGS# 6591)

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato is the culmination of more than 10 years of research into the Draped Bust Small Eagle half dollar series, one of the most coveted type coins in American numismatics and one about which remarkably little has been written.

This work will be the premier reference for 1796-1797 half dollars for years to come. Institutions having an extensive numismatic library or coin cabinet will find it a valuable complement to their holdings, and catalogers charged with writing up specimens for auction can now have an indispensable source of background and pedigree information. Likewise, coin dealers seeking to purchase one or more '96 or '97 half dollars for a client or for inventory, and collectors who own, have owned, or desire to own one will want this important reference work for their libraries.
