George V gold 10 Dollars 1912 MS65 PCGS, Ottawa mint, KM27, Fr-3. The first year of this memorable, but short-lived attempt to produce non-Sovereign gold coinage at the Ottawa mint, this date being the key to the three-year series. As with the the other dates in the run of production, Gem survivors are elusive, but this effect is amplified due to the overall rarity of the 1912 date in comparison with the following two years. A mere eight examples at PCGS have been rewarded with a Gem Mint State assignment and only six have ascended beyond MS65. While still relatively scarce in regards to the grade distribution for the issue, Gem specimens of the 1913 and 1914 dates can be found without much exertion; this is not the case for the 1912, Heritage has not auctioned an MS65 since 2018. The Belzberg pedigree and rose-gold patina (featuring blushes of more vivid shades of orange) are the cherries on top of a special selection that enthusiasts of Canadian coinage have likely been looking forward to for many years.
