1701 Medal John Law, Credit is Dead, Silver, Betts-115var, AU53 PCGS. 26.3 mm. This is cataloged as "Betts-115var" and is one of many variants to this design that are all described by John W. Adams in The Medals Concerning John Law and the Mississippi System (published in 2005). The date of 1701 appears in Roman numerals at the bottom of the figure's coat as MDCCI, although Betts wrote that the figure was an error for MCCCXX. Christopher R. McDowell writes in The Early Betts Medal Companion that Betts made several errors concerning this medal.

While not directly related to the series of John Law medals, this piece is typically associated with those medals. Delicate reddish-gold and pale blue toning appear on the antique gray surfaces of this example that shows the typical marks of light handling over more than three centuries.
