1879-CC $1 Capped Die, VAM-3A, MS61 NGC. A Top 100 Variety. The 1879-CC is the first truly scarce issue in the series, a result of only limited numbers of this issue surviving via the GSA hoard. This MS61 is the popular VAM-3A, or "Capped Die" variety, with a Large over Small CC mintmark, date doubling and die gouges. Frosty luster under a transparent layer of almond-gray yields a fantastic cartwheel effect. Typical strike weakness is seen at the centers, and light scattered abrasions define the grade.
