1852 PG$1 Gold Dollar, Judd-145 Thick, Pollock-173, Low R.6 PR62 NGC. CAC. An annular pattern with a wide opening that restricts the inscriptions to the date, denomination, and country name. Room is found on the lower half of the reverse for a wreath ornament. Struck in gold with a plain edge. The issued gold dollar was essential to commerce in 1852, since silver coins were hoarded at the time. The gold dollar was a small piece and easily lost. This annular pattern was intended to provide the gold denomination in a larger, more convenient form. Each side is bright and deeply mirrored yellow-gold with minimal surface problems.
