Description

1786 No Coulter New Jersey Copper, Very Fine

1786 COPPER New Jersey Copper, No Coulter VF20 PCGS. Maris 12-I, W-4795, R.4. A desirable No Coulter (a vertical blade or wheel attached to the beam of a plow) New Jersey copper. This scarce variety is seldom seen finer than Very Fine. Bowers (2009) writes that only three Extremely Fine examples have been recorded. This pleasing medium-brown representative has several small abrasions and minor granularity on the obverse, but the reverse is remarkably smooth. The horse's neck and the shield are weakly struck, as usually seen, but other details show impressive definition. A superior example. Listed on page 65 of the 2010 Guide Book. Population: 2 in 20, 2 finer (7/09).
