Description

Lusitania Medal, English Copy

Goetz Lusitania Medal MS MS60 Uncertified. Die Cast. Struck in Iron. English copy of Karl Goetz' famous Lusitania medal. An unknown, but probably large number of these medals were reproduced by the English for propaganda purposes. Distinguishable as an English copy by the alteration of the month from MAI to MAY. The date 5 MAI 1915 was used by the Allies as proof that the sinking of the ship was planned in Berlin and that the medal was struck to commemorate the deed before it was actually committed on May 7. Medium gray color over each side with uniform porosity from the casting process. A few rim nicks are seen on the CUNARD side from 3 to 6 o'clock.(#661915)

Coin Index Numbers: (PCGS# 661915)
