Sharply Defined 1798 S-145 Cent
1798 1C First Hair Style. S-145, B-2, R.3--Environmental Damage--NCS. AU Details. Fine 15 EAC. Die State IV. This example is on a black (presumably Coltman) planchet, well centered and well struck except in the reverse center, where ONE CENT is weak. The surfaces are finely porous, although the porosity is noticeable only with a glass. There is excellent separation in Liberty's hair strands, and the dentilation is strong on both sides, although of uneven width. There is a faint die crack in the dentils above OF and die bulging is present in that area, but most of the die damage Breen describes for later Die State IV and Die State V is yet to occur. Examination under a glass reveals a light, straight scrape across Liberty's neck, well concealed.Ex: George Ramont (8/9/1975). Envelope Included.(Registry values: N1793)
