Outstanding Superb Gem 1903 Half Eagle

1903 $5 MS67 NGC. Before the Lincoln cent obverse began its 98-year-long (and counting) run, the longevity of the Gobrecht gold design was the benchmark by which other designs were measured. Though the design was on its way out by the time this example was struck in 1903, it had lasted for more than six decades since its first appearance on the half eagle in 1839. This delectable example offers scintillating luster and luscious lemon-gold fields with a touch of peach color at the reverse periphery. Solidly struck with practically perfect devices and stunning visual appeal, this 20th century delight is a simply unbeatable choice for the Registry collector; NGC has graded just four Superb Gems and PCGS has certified just one, with none finer at either service (6/07).(Registry values: N4719)
