Description

Bavaria. Maximilian III & Maria Anna silver "Wedding" Medallic 5 Ducats (1747)-FAS AU58 PCGS, Munich mint, cf. KM493 (design), Fr-245 (design), Mers-1842 (different denom.). By Franz Andreas Scheg (die cutter in Munich 1739-1787). Commemorating their wedding, the obverse displays busts of Maximilian III Joseph and Maria Anna von Sachsen. On reverse, under the radiant Eye of Providence, the personification of Bavaria kneels in front of pyramid with inscription. This marriage ended childless, leading to Maximillian's nephew claiming the Bavarian throne in 1777 sparking the War of Bavarian Succession.
