Electric Superb Gem 1937-S Arkansas Half

1937-S 50C Arkansas MS67 NGC. Hattie Wyatt Caraway, widow of Senator Thaddeus Caraway, filled out her husband's Senate term in 1931 and won a special election to retain her seat in 1932, which made her the first woman elected to that body. Among the legislation she sponsored was the bill that became the Act of May 14, 1934, which created the Arkansas half. On this 1937-S piece, mottled gold, turquoise, and olive patina adorns most of the surfaces. The upper obverse displays bands of crimson and electric-blue. An unusually well preserved and immensely appealing representative. Census: 2 in 67, 1 finer (11/07).(Registry values: N2998)
