Description

Selinus. Ca. 450-440 BC. AR tetradrachm (16.23 gm). Σ-EΛINI-ON, Artemis driving walking quadriga left, holding reins; Apollo in car beside her, drawing bow / River god Selinus, nude, standing left, holding phiale over canopied altar and cradling filleted palm branch; to left, rooster standing left before altar; to right, selinon leaf above bull standing left on basis. Schwabacher 10 (Q3/S10). SNG ANS 691 (same obv. die). Minor obverse porosity and obverse die a little degraded, but an especially clean reverse. Very fine / good very fine.
