Kipunada was the last of the Little Kushans, probably reigning at Taxilla from 335-350 AD as a subject of the Gupta Emperor Samudragupta. After 350 AD, the gold issues of Punjab inscribed in swift succession the name of Samudragupta, the Hunnic Kings Kirada, Peroz, and then culminating with Kidara, who had conquered the Sasanian territories of Bactria and the Hindu Kush. The aftermath of the former Kushan Empire was mired by a series of invasions from four different Hunnic tribes: the Kidarites, Alchons, Nezaks, and Hephthalites. Of the four tribes, the Alchon Huns were the most destructive. The Alchons demolished most of the Buddhist architectural and sculptural heritage built by the Kushana, and their invasion into the heartland of India decisively brought an end to the Gupta Empire. The legacy of the Kushan Empire is that of a cultural Golden Age, promoting the blending of Zoroastrian, Hindu, and Buddhist faiths, and of the Pax Kushana, bringing peace and stability to the Indian subcontinent.
