Description

Genroku Gold Koban ND (1695-1710), JNDA 09-14, FR-10, Long 'GEN' character variety which is the more common of the two varieties. The Genroku era was the golden age of the Edo period marked with great prosperity. However, this era Koban, and other issued coins of the time, were debased leading to abrupt inflationary problems. The gold purity dropped to 56% for the Genroku Koban from the 86% purity of the previous era Keicho Koban. Very nice XF with only a few chop marks.
