Description

1794 NC-7, B-4a Cent, Good 4
The Only Known Specimen
Blundered Edge

1794 1C Head of 1793 Good 4 NGC. S-20a (NC-7), B-4a, Unique. Our EAC Grade Good 4. Ex: Mervis Collection. 1793 and 1794 Edge Devices. Breen Die State I. There is no trace of the obverse bulge that develops on S-20b. The edge was lettered twice, once with the 1793 edge device, and a second time with the 1794 edge device. Robert Bashlow discovered this piece in 1961, and no others have surfaced since then. His discovery was announced in the debut issue of the short-lived Metropolitan Numismatic Journal. It is unlikely that any additional pieces will ever be found, due to the nature of the blundered edge. This cent has the sharpness of VG8, with dark olive and steel-brown surfaces that show light porosity.
Ex: Robert Bashlow; Dr. William H. Sheldon (4/19/1972); R.E. Naftzger, Jr. (2/23/1992); Eric Streiner (11/19/1992); Robinson S. Brown, Jr. (Superior, 1/1996), lot 28; Dan Holmes (Goldberg Coins, 9/2009), lot 34; Daniel W. Trollan (6/12/2012); Greg Hannigan.
