1794 1C Head of 1795 -- Struck 10% Off Center -- Fine 12 NGC.
S-67, B-59, R.3. Our EAC Grade VG10. Ex: Mervis Collection.
Breen Die State indeterminate. This piece is struck about 10 to 15%
off center to 12 o'clock, and it has a plain edge, all on an
oversize planchet. The edge lettering was an entirely different
process from the actual minting, making this piece a double mint
error, and an especially exciting item from the second year of Mint
operations in Philadelphia. Somewhat glossy maroon and golden-tan
patina accompanies microscopic surface roughness on this impressive
cent.Ex: Henry Hilgard; Michael Arconti (Superior, 7/2003), lot 10.
