Not Sold Description
Choice AU 1936 Nickel, Struck on Nicaragua Planchet
1936 5C Buffalo Nickel--Struck on a Nicaragua Cent Planchet--AU55 PCGS. As the U.S. Mint grew in prominence, it took on coinage contracts for other nations, particularly Western Hemisphere nations. Occasionally, planchets intended for a foreign country ended up in presses stamping American coins, and these foreign-planchet errors are prized by collectors today. This caramel-brown example displays violet accents and a slight woodgrain pattern on the reverse. Modestly worn with solid definition everywhere but the highpoints; while there was not enough metal to fill the space between the dies, the softer bronze metal allowed for a deeper impression at the areas of lower relief. From The Pacific Coast Mint Error Collection.
