Libertas Americana Medal, MS62 Brown
Struck in Copper From the Original Dies
Loubat-14, Betts-615

1781-Dated Libertas Americana Medal, Copper, MS62 Brown NGC. Betts-615, Loubat-14. Original dies. Augustin Dupré's iconic Libertas Americana design transcends the realm of medal collecting and can be found on the wish lists of many coin collectors. The issue's origin story certainly heightens its appeal, with Benjamin Franklin having come up with the idea for a medal celebrating the nascent United States' vanquishing of the British at Saratoga and Yorktown. Originals were first struck in March and April 1783, but production from the same dies continued through 1791.

Characteristic die chips, including one below the 4 on the obverse, appear throughout this partly glossy chocolate-brown representative. Small contact marks explain the grade, but the strong devices remain unworn and eye appeal is impressive.
