Description
1793 S-1, B-1 Chain Cent, VF Details
Famous AMERI. Reverse
1793 1C Chain, AMERI., S-1, B-1, R.4--Tooled--PCGS Genuine. VF
Details. The Chain AMERI. cent is historically important as the
first copper coin produced for circulation at the U.S. Mint in
Philadelphia. With a supply of copper on hand, and all equipment in
place, the Mint was finally prepared to strike circulation coinage
11 months after Congress passed the Coinage Act of April 2, 1792.
While areas of corrosion appear on both sides, with evidence that
the olive-brown surfaces have been smoothed or tooled, this is an
exceptionally well-detailed piece that will serve nicely in a date
or type collection.Ex: Long Beach Signature (6/2019), lot 3009.
