Fukien. Republic 10 Cents Year 17 (1928) MS65 PCGS, KM-Y388, L&M-851, Kann-714. Canton Martyr's Memorial type. One of the more engaging varieties from the Chinese 10 Cent series, depicting the memorial erected for the 72 revolutionaries that perished in the plot to raze the governor's Yamen at Canton on March 29, 1911. Quite attractive in hand, the lustrous argent canvas is overlayed with swaths of autumnal toning that provide character and depth to the Gem surfaces. This type has not appeared this nice on the market since Stack's sold this very piece in 2015. Tied with one other specimen at the very top of the PCGS census.
