Description

Mato Grosso. João VI Counterstamped 960 Reis ND (1818) VF20 NGC, KM331.1, LMB-483. "MATO GROSSO" counterstamp on the obverse and a banded globe on the reverse (VF Weak), struck on a Charles IV 8 Reales 1808 PTS-PJ from Bolivia (cf. KM73). A fabulous example of this interesting and atypical counterstamped issue that is wholly attractive for the assigned grade, the fields abounding with iridescent-tinged pewter-gray surfaces transitioning to russet towards the outer registers. A rarely-offered Mato Grosso type.
