Description

Imposing Ferdinand III 10 Ducat - Only the Second Example of This Date Yet Certified

Ferdinand III gold 10 Ducat 1645 AU58 NGC, Vienna mint, KM926 (Rare), Fr-209, Horsky-Unl., MzA-143, Herinek-13. 34.60gm. Hans Jakob Stadler as mintmaster. Struck from Taler dies (cf. KM882). Date recut from 1643. A gold multiple which can only be regarded as instantly imposing, standing as an absolute treasure to behold. One of a mere two examples in the certified population--the other, an MS63, having appeared in our March 2021 sale of the Paramount Collection--close inspection confirms the most careful attention to detail throughout, die polish residing in the recesses around the imperial eagle on the reverse, while the whole of the planchet is dressed in a pervasive harvest-gold patina. The few scattered wisps and touch of highpoint friction that likely bound the designation could quite easily be ascribed to cabinet rub, as a coin such as this almost assuredly was carefully cared for and stored long after it was first minted. Imposing and worthy of the utmost consideration.
