Description

1800 LIBEKTY Half Dime, VF30
Attractive V-2, LM-3 Example

1800 H10C LIBEKTY, V-2, LM-3, R.4, VF30 NGC. Commonly called the "LIBEKTY" variety, LM-3 is the more plentiful of two 1800 half dime varieties that employ this obverse. The R in LIBERTY was entered with a punch that had a broken top, giving the impression of an oddly shaped letter K instead. This variety is essential for a complete Guide Book set. Offered here is a well-struck example with complete rims and natural lilac-gray and golden patina. The usual die bulge on the reverse under the eagle's beak affects the central sharpness of the obverse, but such is virtually unavoidable on this issue. The die state is late, showing a heavy die break to the left of the date that weakens the dentils in that area.
