Description

Catherine II gold 10 Roubles 1762-CПБ AU58 NGC, St. Petersburg mint, KM-C79.2, Fr-129, Bit-4 (R1). Of the numerous 10 Roubles issues we see with any sort of frequency, the current offering ranks among the most sought-after and regularly commands significant premiums approaching Mint State assignments. A first year of issue from the "Golden Age of Russia" that was seemingly plucked from circulation not long after production and placed in a discerning cabinet where a striking lemon-gold patina has developed. Both faces remain fully struck up and bathed in abundant residual luster, with the reverse appearing especially fine for this borderline uncirculated representative. Of the small handful currently submitted to the major grading services, our offering ranks in the middle of the pack conditionally, yet is no less appreciable in visual quality than even the MS61 we handled in our 2021 August ANA auction.
